Florescent tubes illuminate the speakers, save for one yellow tube that punctures the ceiling and hovers over one of the speakers, casting a hazy light on the image of the deceased man. Together all these elements of the installation construct a loaded vision of spirituality.
Because the theme of this installation focuses on death, the image of the cross represents a faith in the existence of an afterlife and salvation for the deceased. Utilizing the ideas behind American artist Dan Flavin's work - light as an element of spirituality - a sanctuary is created. The separation of the piece of composed music into four parts forces the viewer to hear the music differently than they would normally and thus, experience the photograph, cloth and light with a heightened awareness. The physical walls of the installation develop a contemplation of the things that are outside of the walls: the unknown. Like the one fluorescent tube that punctuates the ceiling, heaven or earthly life it draws you up to meditate on our own mortality.
